In Motion Monochrome

" From the beginning, we are taught to freeze motion. The fastest shutter speeds get all the glory; I think it’s partly our weird addiction to perfect sharpness in all areas of the image. But the sense of motion created by a slower shutter speed brings energy and life to a photograph. The longer I photograph, the more comfortable I become at the slower end of the shutter dial. I already have nearly 30 years of usually sharp photographs under my belt and I’m no longer asking, “Are they sharp?” I’m asking, “Are they alive?”  David DuChemin.

As I am trying to master panning and use slow shutter speed I am learning how a subject can be gracefull even if its blur.  Here some of the photos I took in Parque Fundidora at Monterrey, Mexico.   Are they sharp?  None but to me they are alive!  Thanks to Barbara Pe and Xavier Aguirre for being part of this practice session.  Great company at the end we were all wet but that's part of the fun.

Night Life at İstiklal Caddesi

A street full of life.

Istiklal Caddesi and Taksim Square they are both places you want to be at night while your visit Istanbul.   I am sure you have heard of both in the news since they're zero ground when it comes To protest against government.   But today I want to show you the street night life... the colorful light sources such as lampposts, neon signs, store windows, car lights, and bare bulbs. Reflections in shop windows and most of all people ready  to enjoy the night.

This long pedestrian road is always filled with people – from all walks of life, all tastes of music, and all sorts of passports. And the bars that line this street offer an equally diverse mix. There are restaurant on each side of the street and in between the tramway travels up and down to taksim square.

Street Art and Graffiti in Istanbul

Choose your frame and wait for something extraordinary to happen.

This post is dedicated to all street art and graffiti artist in İstanbul.  Some of them are anonimous and probably we will never know who they are but some others are known for their work around the world.   Whether is a stairs, a wall, aluminum fence, or even a window reflection, any where you look on your way to some turistic site in İstanbul, you will probably find one of these graffiti.

Here are some of the graffiti I found on my way to explore İstanbul.  I wanted to photograph people's reactions and interactions with this art. I chose the frame and wait for something extraordinary to happen.

The hardest thing about street photography is to be patient and wait until you find some magical moment.  It is a matter of probability and yes it will happen.

I was not lucky in all the frames but I am proud of being patient and have waited for a while without knowing what excactly I was looking for. Something will happen, I keep telling myself and it did!

At the end this lesson applies at just about everything in life, be patient is a virtude!

I hope you enjoy the views!
