Let your subconscious work for you

Don't Overthinking just do it

"The more you think about a shot, the easier it is to lose it. If you’re thinking long, you’re thinking wrong. Sometimes you just have to take the shot. When I’m in the moment, I’m not thinking at all. I’m locked in non-thought."  Elliot Erwitt.

Eminönü

İt was a rainy morning in Eminönü. I thought rain was going to ruin my practice lesson but I had to live with it.  I tried to not get wet and protect my camera so I got under a tiny roof in a corner of the Spice Bazar and from there I started to shoot trying to get several people in a single frame.

Eminönü

İt was so crowded and I thougth it was imposible.  I said to myself,  'don't overthink it just do it, later you will give it a sense and see if it's worth it.'

I was a wird morning and people was not happy about rain, except for this guy who was selling umbrellas like hot bread. : )

The rest of the people was trying to hurry to get to wherever they were going and along this corner I felt like I was seeing a movie.

As soon as rain stoped we walked up the streets to Beyazid Gran Bazar.

Grand Bazaar

Beyazid - Grand Bazaar

There are always trucks loading and unloading commodities and by that stoping the transit at their convenience.

Beyazid - Grand Bazaar

And what amazes me the most is man always carrying goods on their backs like if there were not trolleys.

We end up at the plaza before getting in the tramway. There were telephone cabins and it was good to say for a while and see who gets in and out.

And this last one shot just got me an idea of what my next practice lesson will be.  : )

Beyazid

Whether it was my subconscious or not, I just let it go. This is not even a series but I it is good to practice and just keep trying.  One day there will be my perfect shot.

I hope you enjoy the views!

Curiosity with a 50 mm lens Color

Be Curious

"You just need to care about what's around you and have a concern with humanity and the human comedy. Then, you can find pictures anywhere. It’s simply a matter of noticing things and organising them." Elliot Erwitt.

 Three some.

It is not an easy thing to do. I takes time and practice. I didn't look for anything in particular just something that captivate my eye at a single glance.

Early çay.

I also tried portraits. It took me some time to find faces that interested me and luckily they didn't mind to take their portrait.

Waiting for you to come up the stairs.
I tried to choose backgrounds and wait for the right moment for someone to pass by but sometimes people ovelaps.

In a rush.

Seeling cloths at the back of Rustempaşa.

Unolading truck.

I was stubborn enough not to change my 50mm lens with my 600D canon. Is not a full frame camera so I had to move back to get the frame I wanted.

Mother and Daughter.

Where is the mother?

So much going on.

I've got it.

Balik Ekmek.

Couple.

Stairs thru Eminönu.

 Braking news.

 Sun ten.

Dikkat köppek var.

Just around the corner.

Framing Eminönü.

Break time.

Fancy cigarret.

These are the few ones I picked out of 400 photos and the result of my whole morning practice. Not bad I guess, I just have to keep on trying until I discover myself on them.

Searching for Emotion

Capture the Emotion

"The best pictures are often ones that are quite evocative. They capture the emotion of a particular moment, and engage and elicit an emotional response from the person looking at them so that they build their own interpretation of the situation." Elliot Erwitt.
This was my third morning practicing street photography, this time in Fatih neighborhood. I got my camera and tried to focus on emotions and I end up isolating people. The hardest thing was to get several emotions by getting people mixed and interact in a single frame. This was new to me, never done it before so it really challenges me to think in a different way and ahead of the situation.  I usually shoot by instinct.
Here are the ones I could decently capture and define according to the way I see them and yet they might be subjected to be categorized in some other way.

.
Level 1.  Interest

.
Level 2.  Joy

.
Level 3.  Surprise

.
Level 4. Distress

.
Level 5. Mixed

I chose Black and White because it makes you concentrate on the essentials: light, story, form, emotion and information. It’s about capturing reality and the raw aesthetic, not what can be enhanced by colour. It offers a different way of looking at things.

This is a work in progress project of mine.  İt will probably change over time but so far it has help me to focus and learn to capture emotions and interactions. Still a way to go but that's the beauty of it.
